'A key role in the chain' - Casper Shipping's Michael Shakesheff, talks about the company's 140-year presence on Teesside.

"Casper Shipping provides an essential port agency service to a high percentage volume of the 5,000-plus vessels calling to discharge and load, undertake maintenance or perform crew changes at Teesport each year.

"Hans and Harold Casper arrived in North-east England in 1872, establishing two ship-broking and agency businesses on the River Tees and in Hartlepool, and we have been here ever since.

"Based locally, we play a key role in the supply and logistics chain, working closely with the port and its service providers ensuring safe and quick as possible turnaround of port stay fro vessels.

"Our aim is to ensure that Teesport remains a first-class port with not only first-class facilities, but also best in class service providers.

"We are sector specialists in chemicals, gas, petroleum products including biodiesel and bioethanol and also dry bulk including coal, iron ore, biomass and finished steel products.

"We also have experience in the offshore sector and have recently been involved with wind farms.

"We work closely with a number of other service providers including terminals, surveyors, port services including the harbour office, pilots, tugs, boatmen, immigration and HMR&C."
